Dosquebradas unveils 3.8 trillion peso reconstruction plan after earthquake
The Mayor of Dosquebradas, Roberto Jiménez, has presented a Specific Action Plan (PAE) totaling 3.8 trillion pesos to address the devastation caused by the August 10 earthquake. The reconstruction roadmap includes building new housing, reinforcing educational institutions, repairing roads, and executing a complementary aqueduct project from the San José River.
Nearly three months after the seismic event, authorities have managed the removal of over 42,000 tons of debris and conducted 72 demolitions across urban and rural areas. Technical assessments of over 18,500 properties have confirmed that 609 homes were completely destroyed, while 4,179 additional buildings remain uninhabitable due to collapse risks.
In terms of humanitarian aid, approximately 500 food markets and essential supplies—including mattresses, diapers, and animal feed—were recently distributed to families in Comuna 1. This aid was facilitated through coordination between the Dosquebradas Mayor's Office and the Bogotá Mayor's Office, with additional support from the Cáritas de Pereira Foundation. While the earthquake initially affected 53 of the municipality's 71 official schools, 20,738 students have since returned to 63 enabled campuses.
