Dosso Governor Bana Alhassane Readies Region for 2026 Tree Day Event
Governor Colonel‑Major Bana Alhassane of Niger’s Dosso region inspected the Sandidey site in the rural commune of Garantchéday, confirming that the 50‑hectare area is ready for the national Tree Day ceremony scheduled for 3 August 2026. He noted that ten thousand trees will be planted and praised the community’s mobilisation.
On 22 July, the governor chaired the installation of a regional commission to organise the celebration. The commission, divided into six specialised sub‑committees, will oversee logistics, security, environmental protection and community engagement. The event follows the decree establishing the National Tree Day, with the theme “Restoration of productive bases, pillar of refoundation,” aimed at promoting agro‑silvo‑pastoral development.
The Tree Day, now in its third national edition, rotates among regions; the previous edition was held in the Guesalbodi forest of Tillabéri, while this year’s national ceremony will take place in Maradi. Local officials emphasized that the successful celebration in Dosso will showcase the region’s commitment to combating desertification and supporting sustainable livelihoods.
