Douala building collapse kills four people, including three children
A section of a four-story building under construction collapsed onto a temporary structure in the Bassa neighborhood of Douala, Cameroon, on the night of Friday, October 9, 2026.
The collapse resulted in the deaths of four people, including three children aged 11 months, 6 years, and 7 years. One other child was seriously injured and is currently in intensive care. Douala Mayor Roger Mbassa Ndine confirmed the casualties following a visit to the site.
The incident occurred near the Église Évangélique du Cameroun in the Bonaloka area. Local reports suggest the collapsed building belonged to a relative of the victims, though official confirmation is pending. The tragedy has raised urgent questions regarding construction site oversight and the responsibility of building industry actors.
