Édouard Mendy announces international retirement and educational initiatives

Following his announcement of international retirement from the Senegal national team, goalkeeper Édouard Mendy has received widespread tributes from teammates. Players including Pape Gueye, Mory Diaw, and Ismaïla Jakobs praised his leadership, humility, and his role in the team’s success, specifically citing the Africa Cup of Nations victory in Morocco.

Mendy has indicated that his retirement includes a focus on educational and associative work. He is currently sponsoring the Yakar School in Keur Massar, near Dakar, to support Senegalese youth. The initiative aims to expand the school’s capacity from 60 to 200 children and provide digital learning tools, such as tablets and computers.
