Édouard Mendy nominated for 2026 Yachine Trophy

Senegalese goalkeeper Édouard Mendy has been named among the ten nominees for the 2026 Yachine Trophy, an award recognizing the world’s best goalkeeper. The 34-year-old Al-Ahli captain enters the race following a highly successful 2025/2026 campaign.

At the club level, Mendy led Al-Ahli to a second consecutive AFC Champions League title, making him the first goalkeeper in history to win both the UEFA Champions League and the AFC Champions League. During his season in the Saudi Pro League, he earned the Golden Glove after recording 14 clean sheets in 26 matches.

On the international stage, Mendy played a pivotal role in Senegal’s victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), securing four clean sheets and making a decisive penalty save in the final. He also represented Senegal in the 2026 World Cup before being forced to withdraw due to injury.
