Édouard Philippe proposes narcotrafic state of emergency
Édouard Philippe has proposed the establishment of a ‘narcotrafficking state of emergency’ to combat organized crime. Inspired by the exceptional regimes implemented following the 2015 terrorist attacks, this proposal would allow for specific administrative measures, searches, and facial recognition in designated areas for limited durations.
The proposal follows incidents of violence involving criminal groups, such as the exfiltration of the mayor of Alès by specialized police units. Unlike the previous anti-terrorist state of emergency, which applied to the entire national territory, this new model would allow for a variable application of the rule of law based on specific geographic zones.
