Doug Ford backs Carney’s plan for private airport investment

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has expressed full support for Prime Minister Mark Carney’s proposal to involve private investors in the operations of Canada’s four largest airports, including Toronto Pearson.

Ford suggested the plan should be expanded to include the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, describing the island airport as a ‘shovel ready’ project that would benefit the economy. The Premier has previously advocated for the expansion of the Billy Bishop airport to accommodate jet aircraft.

Prime Minister Carney clarified that the federal government does not intend to privatize the airports entirely, but rather to change their operational structure. Under this proposal, the government would retain ownership of all land and assets, with any funds raised being reinvested into regional airports.
