Safe Surrey Coalition says Indian‑funded Facebook pages targeted BC municipal voters

The Safe Surrey Coalition, led by former mayor Doug McCallum, alleges that a network of at least four Facebook pages posing as local news outlets was operated from India and funded in Indian rupees billed to an entity at the Government of India’s C‑DAC Innovation Park. The pages – I Love Surrey, Delta Speaks, I Love Delta and I Love Vancouver – were used to reach Canadian voters in Surrey, Delta and Vancouver one week before the municipal election scheduled for 17 October 2026. The coalition says the pages posted content that portrayed Mayor Brenda Locke positively without disclosing the foreign funding source.

McCallum’s group has called for a formal investigation, asking agencies such as CSIS, the RCMP, Elections BC and local police to examine the alleged unregistered third‑party advertising, missing sponsor information and prohibited foreign financing.

Mayor Locke said she has no knowledge of the alleged interference, stating, “I’m not sure what the deal is.” The coalition’s press release urges authorities to act to protect the integrity of the upcoming municipal elections.
