Douglas Costa discusses Juventus tenure and Massimiliano Allegri

Brazilian winger Douglas Costa has shared insights into his time at Juventus, describing the squad as a “squadrone” (squadron) assembled to pursue the Champions League title. Speaking on the ‘Centrocampo’ podcast, Costa reflected on the high caliber of teammates he played alongside, including Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuaín, Juan Cuadrado, Mario Mandžukić, and Miralem Pjanić.

Costa addressed his relationship with former manager Massimiliano Allegri, noting that while Allegri made him wait six months to debut, he maintained a positive rapport with the coach. He highlighted the tactical shift required moving from the transition-based football of Germany to the more tactical Italian style, where maintaining a 1-0 lead was prioritized.

According to Costa, Allegri focused heavily on teaching the team defensive phases, while granting attackers significant freedom in offensive play. He also recalled a standout performance against Napoli, involving a successful play against Lorenzo Insigne and Jorginho, which helped secure his place in the starting lineup.
