Douglas, Georgia shooting leaves five family members dead

Five family members were killed in an apparent murder-suicide at a residence in Douglas, Georgia, on Friday, October 9, 2026. Authorities responded to an active shooter call around 11:00 p.m. and discovered four adults dead at the scene. A fifth victim, a woman, was transported to a local hospital where she later died.

Douglas Police Chief Brannen Pruette stated that the deceased were immediate family members living in the home. Investigators believe a male assailant shot four individuals before taking his own life. Notably, one of the victims had placed an emergency call earlier that day, reportedly complaining that her husband was “killing her with the smoke” from his cigarettes.

This incident marks the third weekend of significant gun violence in Georgia, following a shooting in Vienna that left two dead and 35 injured, and another incident in Macon. Local officials have highlighted these events as part of a concerning pattern of violence across the state.
