Douglas Ruas proposes motoboy tax exemptions in Rio de Janeiro

Douglas Ruas, the Liberal Party (PL) candidate for the government of Rio de Janeiro, has announced several proposals aimed at supporting motoboys working in delivery and transport apps. His plan includes an IPVA tax exemption for motorcycles with up to 180cc and the creation of the ‘RJ na Pista’ program, which would provide special credit lines for purchasing new vehicles.

Additionally, Ruas proposed establishing support bases in partnership with municipalities. These facilities would offer workers essential infrastructure, including shelter, bathrooms, dining areas, and televisions. Ruas stated that these measures could benefit approximately 90,000 workers.

Regarding his campaign finances, data from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) indicates that the national leadership of the PL has allocated approximately R$ 17.7 million to Ruas’s campaign, nearly reaching the legal spending limit. Despite this funding, recent Quaest polling shows Ruas faces challenges in name recognition, with 59% of voters stating they do not know him, compared to his main opponent, Eduardo Paes.
