Douglas Ruas widens Rio de Janeiro governor campaign, gains AGIR party backing
The regional political party AGIR announced formal support for Douglas Ruas's pre‑candidacy for the Rio de Janeiro governorship at a gathering held at the Rio de Janeiro Commercial Association headquarters. Party leaders Daniel Tourinho, Rafael Fernandez and deputy Júlio Rocha attended, and Ruas pledged to unite political forces to boost the state's investment capacity and improve public services.
Two days later Ruas, who also serves as president of the Rio state legislature, toured the state's northern and north‑western municipalities. He inspected urban‑rehabilitation works in Cambuci, visited a new sports centre site, and toured completed road‑paving and LED‑lighting projects. In Italva he met with the mayor, local deputies and councilors to discuss further regional development, and he inspected a health‑care facility in Bom Jesus do Itabapoana. Throughout the visits he highlighted the infrastructure improvements achieved during his tenure as state secretary of cities.
