Douglass Benning appointed Deputy Chief of Mission at U.S. Embassy in Mexico
U.S. Ambassador Ron Johnson has officially welcomed Douglass Benning as the new Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico. The appointment aims to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.
Benning is a career member of the Foreign Service with the rank of Minister Counselor. His extensive diplomatic background includes serving as the U.S. Consul General in Milan, Tegucigalpa, London, Prague, and Mexico City. Between 2021 and 2023, he held the position of Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Consular Affairs, managing global consular operations.
Additionally, Benning has significant experience in crisis management and national security, having directed the State Department’s 24-hour crisis management center from 2015 to 2016 and serving as Executive Secretary at the National Security Council from 2014 to 2015. He holds a degree in political science from Tulane University and is proficient in Spanish and Italian.
