Dourados man sentenced to 29 years for murder, rape, and torture of teenager

A man has been sentenced to 29 years and three months in prison for the murder, rape, and torture of a 16-year-old girl in the Jaguapiru village, located in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul.

The crime occurred in December 2023. According to investigations, the suspect attempted to engage in non-consensual sexual relations with the teenager while in the company of her family. Following a disagreement, he attacked her with a knife and used asphyxiation. The victim's father discovered her body the following morning. Local indigenous leaders located the suspect and handed him over to the police.

The jury recognized three aggravating factors for the homicide: futile motive, the use of asphyxiation, and reasons related to the victim's female gender (feminicide). Although the charge of torture was initially excluded from the jury trial phase, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Mato Grosso do Sul (MPMS) successfully appealed, and the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso do Sul (TJMS) reinstated the charge.

The final sentence consists of 18 years for qualified homicide, eight years and four months for rape, and two years and 11 months for torture, to be served in an initial closed regime.
