Douro Line rail service suspended for modernization
Rail services on the Douro Line between Marco de Canaveses and Peso da Régua will be suspended from November 3 to March 24 due to modernization and electrification works. Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) announced that alternative road transport will be provided to serve the affected localities during this period.
The project involves a total investment of 110 million euros to achieve full electrification of the approximately 47-kilometer stretch. The works are scheduled to take place during the winter to minimize the impact on regular passengers and tourists, as this is the season with lower demand.
The overall project is expected to last three years and will consist of three distinct periods of service interruption. Electrification of the Douro Line is currently completed up to Marco de Canaveses.
