Dover-Foxcroft police investigate fatal hit-and-run
The Dover-Foxcroft Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run involving 73-year-old Barry Lial of Cambridge. Lial was found unresponsive on the side of North Street at approximately 8 p.m. on Wednesday and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities believe Lial was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street. While initial reports from the department suggested evidence did not support a hit-and-run theory, investigators later updated their findings after reviewing security footage.
Police have identified a suspected vehicle as a light-colored sedan traveling northbound on North Street between Summer and Winter Streets around 7:55 p.m. on Wednesday. The vehicle may show minimal damage to its hood or windshield. The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office and Maine State Police Major Crime Units.
