Downer Group invests in cybersecurity to meet contract requirements

Downer Group is increasing its investment in cybersecurity software to meet evolving requirements in contract tenders. The engineering contractor has implemented ThreatLocker endpoint security to manage privileged access and control application use.

Aidan Turner, Head of Security Engineering and Platforms, noted that these investments are driven by contract compliance and risk management rather than a specific security incident. He highlighted that cybersecurity and ‘zero trust’ have become integral components of the bidding process, appearing frequently in customer requirements and regulatory sheets.

The adoption of new security tools was specifically motivated by a contract secured at the start of 2026, which required ‘maturity level two requirements’ under the Essential Eight framework. This investment ensures that new personnel are onboarded with necessary security controls already in place.
