Downtown revitalization projects underway in Grimsby and Burlington
Municipalities in Grimsby and Burlington are progressing with downtown infrastructure and revitalization projects.
In Grimsby, the ‘Downtown Reimagined’ project has reached several milestones, including the completion of watermain installation on Main Street West and trench restoration on Elm Street. Starting Monday, October 19, Mountain Street will close between Elm Street and Main Street for approximately four to six weeks to facilitate watermain installation. While through traffic will be blocked, businesses will remain open with sidewalk access maintained.
In Burlington, North Carolina, a new streetscape project is set to begin. The initiative aims to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment through wider sidewalks, new lighting, trees, and benches. The first phase involves closing Front Street between Main Street and Spring Street to vehicles until spring. City officials noted that while construction may be challenging for local businesses, pedestrian access to storefronts will be maintained, and no parking spaces will be lost during the project.
