Dozza prison overcrowding labeled 'unacceptable' by officials

Officials from the Emilia-Romagna region and the city of Bologna visited the Dozza prison in Bologna as part of the national 'Ristretti in Agosto' initiative. During the visit, regional president Michele de Pascale described the current state of prison overcrowding as 'unacceptable' and called for urgent government action to improve conditions for both detainees and prison police officers.

The Dozza facility currently houses over 800 detainees despite having a regulatory capacity of only 505 places. To address regional prison needs, the Emilia-Romagna regional government has allocated more than 4.4 million euros toward prison services and activities. This includes 2.278 million euros specifically earmarked for training programs designed to develop the skills of incarcerated individuals.
