DP World adds 2,500‑TEU vessel to India coastal shipping network

DP World’s Shipping Solutions business has acquired the DP World Indus, a container vessel of more than 2,500 TEU capacity, to expand its domestic coastal shipping operations in India. The vessel joins a fleet of ten ships that serve 14 Indian ports, a network that handled over 473,000 TEUs in 2025. Its maiden call was at DP World’s Jeddah South Container Terminal, underscoring the group’s strategy of integrating ports and marine services.

The acquisition supports India’s Maritime Vision 2030 and DP World’s aim to provide a sustainable alternative to long‑haul road transport, reducing congestion and carbon emissions. Ganesh Raj, Global COO of Marine Services at DP World, said the coastal shipping sector offers “significant opportunities to improve supply chain efficiency and support sustainable economic growth.” The move follows a 2024 memorandum of understanding with India’s Sagarmala Finance Corporation to further develop sustainable coastal and short‑sea shipping services.
