DP World extends Luanda terminal concession to 2051
DP World has secured a 10-year extension to its concession for the multi-purpose terminal at the Port of Luanda in Angola, extending its operations through 2051. As part of this agreement, the company will invest an additional US$90 million over the next two years to upgrade infrastructure and equipment.
The expansion project aims to increase the terminal’s annual design capacity from 500,000 to approximately 1.2 million TEUs. Physical improvements include increasing the terminal area from 27 to 37 hectares and lengthening the quay from 610 to 830 metres. To support these upgrades, DP World plans to acquire three ship-to-shore cranes and 12 semi-automated rubber-tyred gantry cranes, enabling the facility to handle two Post-Panamax vessels simultaneously.
Since beginning operations in 2021, DP World has invested more than US$260 million in the Luanda terminal. This latest commitment brings the total investment in the facility to over US$350 million. Container throughput at the terminal has grown from 177,000 TEUs in 2021 to more than 350,000 TEUs annually.
