DP World launches $100 million Mombasa Industrial Park project

DP World has signed an agreement with GulfCap Africa, the investment firm owned by Kenyan businessman and politician Suleiman Shahbal, to develop a 222‑hectare Mombasa Industrial Park within a Special Economic Zone less than 20 km from Kenya’s Port of Mombasa. The project will be built in phases, with an initial 40 hectare section, and is estimated to cost upwards of $100 million.

The park will combine industrial, warehousing and logistics facilities to create a manufacturing and distribution hub serving Kenya and land‑locked neighbours such as Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan. DP World Group CEO Yuvraj Narayan said the development diversifies the company’s revenue beyond cargo handling and reinforces Kenya’s role as a regional trade gateway. DP World Africa CEO Mohammed Akoojee added that the hub will improve supply‑chain efficiency across East and Central Africa. The investment is subject to conditions precedent and formal documentation, and a detailed construction timeline has not been disclosed.
