DP World to invest $90M to expand Port of Luanda capacity

DP World has announced a $90 million investment to more than double the annual container handling capacity at the Port of Luanda in Angola. The project aims to increase capacity from 500,000 to 1.2 million units through infrastructure modernization, equipment procurement, and operational improvements.

The expansion includes a 222-metre quay extension, a ten-hectare operational area expansion, and the addition of three ship-to-shore cranes. These upgrades will allow the terminal to accommodate two Post-Panamax vessels simultaneously. This investment is accompanied by a ten-year extension of DP World’s terminal concession, which will now run through 2051.

The increased capacity is intended to meet rising demand and strengthen Luanda’s role as a maritime gateway for Angola and regional markets, potentially facilitating transhipment for neighboring countries.
