DP World Tour Playoffs face absences at Abu Dhabi championship

The Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship, the opening event of the DP World Tour Playoffs at Yas Links Golf Club, will see several high-profile players absent from the field. Notable absentees include Ryder Cup stars Matt Fitzpatrick, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Bob MacIntyre, and Ludvig Aberg, as well as Alex Fitzpatrick and Ryan Fox.

While it is unconfirmed if these absences are due to regional tensions in the United Arab Emirates or individual scheduling, the departures impact the Race to Dubai rankings. Despite these absences, the field remains headlined by Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.

In contrast, the top five players in the Race to Dubai rankings are confirmed to compete. This includes leader Eugenio Chacarra, who aims to become the third Spaniard to finish as European Number One, following Seve Ballesteros and Jon Rahm. Other confirmed participants include Patrick Reed, Casey Jarvis, and defending champion Aaron Rai.
