DP World Tour to ban LIV Golf players starting in 2027
DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings has announced that players aligned with LIV Golf will no longer be permitted to compete on the DP World Tour starting in 2027. This marks a significant policy shift from previous years when the tour granted conditional releases that allowed athletes to maintain eligibility for events like the Ryder Cup.
Kinnings stated that the tour’s primary responsibility is to stage professional tournaments for its members, rather than driving the grassroots growth of the sport. He noted that organizations such as the R&A and various junior golf initiatives are better positioned to develop young talent, while the tour aims to inspire the next generation by providing high-quality professional events featuring world-class players.
The decision to end the coexistence between the two tours comes amid ongoing legal challenges, with LIV's legal representation labeling the move as anticompetitive. The policy change effectively removes the pathway for LIV players to participate in DP World Tour events by 2027.
