DP World Tour to deny 2027 membership to LIV Golf players
The DP World Tour has announced a strict new policy for the 2027 season, stating that any player who signs with LIV Golf will be denied membership on the European circuit. This marks a significant departure from previous years when certain players were granted conditional releases to compete on both tours.
CEO Guy Kinnings stated that players must “make a choice,” emphasizing that the tour has rules and regulations to protect its organization. This decision has major implications for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland, as DP World Tour membership is a prerequisite for selection to the European team. High-profile players like Tyrrell Hatton could face ineligibility if they choose to remain with LIV.
The ultimatum comes as LIV Golf undergoes restructuring and seeks to emerge from bankruptcy protection following the withdrawal of funding from the Saudi Public Investment Fund. While BC Partners has committed potential investment of $300 million toward a new version of the league, players face tight deadlines: October 25 to commit to LIV and November 16 to apply for DP World Tour membership. Several players, including Jon Rahm, have already indicated they will not participate in the new LIV iteration.
