DPD introduces augmented reality tool for parcel sizing

DPD has introduced a new augmented reality (AR) feature called ‘Virtual Parcel’ to its DPD Mobile application. This tool allows users to visualize the size of a package relative to DPD Pickup locker compartments before booking or paying for a service.

By using a smartphone camera, the app projects a 3D model of one of three available parcel sizes onto a flat surface. Users can rotate and move the virtual model to compare it with their physical package, helping to prevent errors such as selecting a locker that is too small or choosing an unnecessarily large size that increases costs. While the feature works with standard smartphone cameras, it can utilize LiDAR sensors on compatible devices for improved spatial accuracy.

Additionally, the DPD Mobile app has added a feature allowing users to save up to three favorite DPD Pickup locations by marking them with a heart icon on the map. These saved locations are then suggested during the parcel sending or redirection processes to streamline the user experience.
