Taiwan local election campaigns intensify across Taoyuan and Changhua

Political campaigning for Taiwan's 2026 local elections has intensified across several regions. In Taoyuan, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) mayoral candidate Huang Shih-chieh attended a party anniversary event where Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim endorsed him, describing him as a local figure who understands the needs of families. Huang criticized the current administration for stagnant development and promised to revitalize the city.

Simultaneously, the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) has officially entered the fray in Taoyuan, with four city council candidates completing their registration. The TPP aims to secure all four seats to establish a formal party caucus in the Taoyuan City Council, focusing on issues such as transportation and childcare.

In Changhua, political mobilization continues with the formation of support groups. The DPP has organized joint support for Chen Su-yueh for county magistrate and Huang Po-yu for mayor, emphasizing a unified front for the region. Meanwhile, in Fanlu, Xiao Bo-sheng has registered his candidacy for township mayor, pledging to focus on industry, tourism, and infrastructure to drive local prosperity.
