Indonesia's DPR advances traffic and asset forfeiture bills
The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) is advancing two major legislative revisions. Regarding the Traffic and Road Transportation Bill (RUU LLAJ), Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi aims to complete discussions by the end of 2026, with the law expected to take effect in 2027. The proposed changes include regulating taxes and non-tax state revenue from digital-based transportation platforms, which support approximately 2 to 4 million drivers. The government has also proposed adding three ministries to oversee traffic education, safety management, and digital platforms.
Simultaneously, Commission III of the DPR is drafting the Asset Forfeiture Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset). Legislator Rikwanto stated that the bill is currently in the stage of gathering public input, having received over 60 submissions from students, legal practitioners, and academics. Key discussions involve ensuring the bill effectively recovers criminal assets while providing legal protections for third parties acting in good faith and preventing the abuse of authority by law enforcement agencies.
