DPR Commission X calls for teacher welfare and inclusive school renovations

Hetifah Sjaifudian, Chairperson of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has emphasized that the welfare of teachers and lecturers must be a priority in the 2027 State Budget Draft (RAPBN 2027). While the welfare of educators was not explicitly mentioned in President Prabowo Subianto’s state speech regarding the budget, Hetifah noted that Commission X will seek concrete explanations regarding budget support and policy directions for both civil servant (ASN) and non-ASN educators.

With an education budget reaching Rp820.9 trillion, the Commission aims to ensure these funds translate into tangible improvements for educator welfare and national education quality.

Additionally, the government has set targets for large-scale school rehabilitation. The plan aims to renovate 100,000 schools in 2027 and another 100,000 in 2028, with the goal of completing renovations for all schools and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) across Indonesia by 2029. Hetifah stressed that these rehabilitations must be inclusive, ensuring facilities are safe, healthy, and accessible to students with disabilities, particularly in remote and outermost regions.
