DPR member urges TNI and Polri to coordinate without overlapping authority

Amelia Anggraini, a member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has emphasized the necessity of synergy between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) in maintaining public security. She stressed that while cooperation is vital, it must be conducted professionally and within legal frameworks without one institution encroaching upon the specific mandates of the other.

Anggraini noted that the TNI is tasked with national defense, whereas the Polri holds the primary mandate for maintaining public order and security. She called for clear, transparent, and effective coordination mechanisms to ensure that TNI assistance in security matters remains focused on citizen protection and respect for human rights.

In response to security needs, particularly leading up to Indonesia's Independence Day celebrations, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto affirmed his forces' readiness to conduct patrols and ensure public safety. He also urged the public to remain calm and avoid being provoked by unverified information or hoaxes.
