DPR RI approves Labor Protection Bill as parliamentary initiative
The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has officially approved the Labor Protection Bill (RUU Pelindungan Ketenagakerjaan) as a parliamentary initiative. The decision was finalized during a plenary session on August 27, 2026, following a harmonization process by the Legislative Body (Baleg).
The bill aims to fulfill the mandate of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the Job Creation Law. It is designed to provide legal certainty for worker rights while simultaneously supporting national economic development. Key updates in the draft include the addition of several clauses and new articles to address transitional norms.
A significant focus of the new regulation is the inclusion of protections for workers in the informal sector and those working on digital platforms, addressing changing work patterns driven by technological advancements.
