DPR RI Commission XI urges productive economic growth in Sulawesi

Members of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) are calling for a shift toward more productive economic drivers in Sulawesi. During working visits to North and South Sulawesi, officials emphasized the need to reduce reliance on government spending and consumer-oriented credit.

In North Sulawesi, Vice Chairman Mohamad Hekal noted that MSME credit is currently being used more for consumption than for investment or working capital. He urged the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and financial institutions to expand access to productive financing and improve financial literacy to help micro-businesses scale into small and medium enterprises.

In South Sulawesi, Commission XI Chairman Mukhamad Misbakhun highlighted that while the region's economy grew by 5.59 percent in the second quarter of 2026, much of this was driven by government spending. He encouraged the provincial government and Bank Indonesia to strengthen investment, household consumption, and exports to ensure sustainable growth that is less dependent on fiscal stimulus.
