DPR RI discusses labor protections and transportation safety standards
The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is addressing various regulatory and safety concerns across the labor and transportation sectors.
In discussions regarding the Labor Protection Bill, Commission IX is receiving input from online driver communities. Representatives from groups such as URC Bergerak have expressed concerns that formal labor regulations might undermine the work flexibility essential to the partnership model used by ride-hailing drivers. Additionally, the IndustriALL Indonesia Council has advocated for stronger protections for female workers, focusing on non-discrimination and reproductive rights.
Regarding transportation safety, Commission VII member Bambang Haryo Soekartono highlighted the need for clear risk mitigation protocols for transporting electric vehicles by sea, citing fire risks. Meanwhile, Commission V Vice Chairman Andi Iwan Darmawan Aras emphasized that safety and security must not be sacrificed for mobility targets. During a visit to South Sulawesi, he noted issues such as overcapacity, inadequate safety equipment, and the need for transparent investigations into foreign object debris at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport.
