DPR RI investigates alleged waste data manipulation by PT Jababeka Tbk

During a hearing with the Environment Working Group of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), allegations of waste data manipulation involving PT Jababeka Tbk were raised. The Deputy for Environmental Law Enforcement, Irjen Pol Rizal Irawan, presented two primary findings regarding the Jababeka Industrial Estate Phase 2.

First, investigations revealed that a 36-year-old discharge pipe has not received routine maintenance since 2023, violating internal standard operating procedures. This lack of upkeep increases the risk of structural failure, leaks, and repeated pollution.

Second, there are allegations of manipulated laboratory results by PT Media Lab. Initial reports showed Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) at 810 mg/L and Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) at 289 mg/L, both significantly exceeding legal limits. However, a revised report issued a week later drastically lowered these figures to 63 mg/L for COD and 19 mg/L for BOD, bringing them within permissible limits. Officials noted that such rapid and drastic changes in testing results are highly unusual.
