Indonesia: Lawmakers address legal, energy, and social issues
Members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) are addressing several regional and legal issues across the country. In Jakarta, Commission III is advocating for stronger assessment and rehabilitation for narcotics users to alleviate prison overcrowding and ensure legal proportionality between users and traffickers.
Regarding legal frameworks, Commission I noted that a Constitutional Court ruling has strengthened the mandate of the TNI Law, specifically clarifying the jurisdictional boundaries between military and general courts for soldiers.
In terms of infrastructure and resources, the North Sulawesi Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is pushing for electricity equality, with PLN targeting full village electrification by 2027. Meanwhile, fuel supply issues have drawn parliamentary attention; Commission XII highlighted waste management and fuel queues in Jombang, while Commission III addressed severe fuel shortages in Bali that have caused long queues and impacted the local tourism economy.
