DPR RI officials urge improved safety and waste management in West Nusa Tenggara tourism

Members of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) have called for improvements to tourism infrastructure and environmental management in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) during a working visit to the region.

Athari Gauthi Ardi emphasized the need to prioritize tourist safety, particularly regarding maritime transportation and pier standards in the Gili Islands. He stressed that tourism development must balance economic growth with ecosystem preservation to ensure long-term sustainability.

Additionally, Rahmawati highlighted the growing challenge of waste management in Gili Meno due to rising tourist numbers. She noted that the current system of transporting waste to the mainland is inefficient and costly. She urged the development of local waste processing facilities, such as composting sites, to manage refuse at the source and reduce plastic pollution on beaches.
