DPR RI urges BPS to improve decile data accuracy

Indonesian legislators from Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) are calling for urgent improvements to the decile data managed by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The lawmakers expressed concern that inaccuracies in socioeconomic decile classifications are causing public unrest and preventing citizens from accessing essential government aid.

Lalu Hadrian Irfani, Vice Chairman of Commission X, urged BPS to update its data and provide transparency regarding the sources used to determine decile rankings. He emphasized that many citizens are unable to receive social assistance or educational scholarships, such as the Program Indonesia Pintar Dikti (KIP Kuliah), due to data errors. He stressed that the BPS must provide a mechanism for citizens to contest or correct their decile status to reflect their actual economic conditions.

Stevano Rizki Adranacus, a legislator from the PDIP faction, also highlighted the impact on education. He argued that socioeconomic data must be accurate, adaptive, and capable of reflecting the dynamic nature of family finances, such as sudden job losses or income changes. He warned that rigid data application should not become a barrier to children's rights to education through scholarship programs.
