DPR Commission III addresses asset seizure oversight and social media brawl provocation

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission III is addressing two distinct legislative and social concerns.

Regarding the Asset Seizure Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset), Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman stated that the committee is prioritizing the prevention of 'abuse of power' by law enforcement. This follows public concerns that the mechanism could be used to target political opponents or silence critics. The commission is currently evaluating whether to utilize the existing Asset Recovery Agency (BPA) within the Prosecutor's Office or establish a new supervisory body to ensure oversight.

Separately, Commission III Vice Chairman Ahmad Sahroni has called on the National Police (Polri) and the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) to collaborate with social media platforms like TikTok and Meta to combat the live-streaming of street brawls (tawuran). Sahroni emphasized the need to block accounts that provoke violence, noting that digital content often serves as inspiration for new perpetrators. This request follows an incident in Bogor where 17 teenagers were detained by police after being tracked via an Instagram live stream used to coordinate a brawl.
