DPRD DIY hosts book discussion to promote literacy and legislative oversight
The Yogyakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD DIY) and the Regional Library and Archives Office (DPAD DIY) held a book discussion for ‘1001 Tanya untuk Wakil Rakyat’ (1001 Questions for People's Representatives) in Yogyakarta.
Budi Waljiman, Vice Chairman of DPRD DIY, emphasized the importance of digital literacy to help citizens navigate the vast flow of information and distinguish valid news from unverified content. He noted that improved reading habits provide the necessary knowledge for the public to understand complex issues and avoid being misled by false information.
Author Farhan Acha stated that the book serves as a practical guide to encourage citizens to move beyond passive voting and actively monitor government performance. The book covers the three primary functions of representatives: legislation, budgeting, and oversight, providing over 1,000 data-based questions to help the public evaluate the integrity and professionalism of their elected officials.
