DPRD DIY updates disaster management and economic policies
The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is refining its Regional Regulation Draft (Raperda) regarding disaster management. Following consultations with the Ministry of Home Affairs, officials are adjusting the draft to ensure legal alignment with central government regulations and to prevent overlapping authorities.
The new regulation aims to replace the outdated Perda Number 13 of 2015. The updated policy will shift focus from reactive disaster response to proactive prevention and risk reduction, including improved early warning systems, spatial planning mitigation, and increased community and volunteer capacity.
In a separate legislative effort, DPRD DIY Commission A Chair Eko Suwanto is calling for the integration of provincial, district/city, and village budgets to combat poverty and unemployment. He advocates for a ‘pro-poor budgeting’ design to stimulate the economy and create jobs, specifically targeting vulnerable groups and small-scale community empowerment.
