Maldives development: President Muizzu targets 2027 for major project completions

Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 2027 is projected to be the year with the highest number of completed national development projects. Speaking on the 'The Pulse' podcast, the President addressed concerns regarding stalled projects, noting that economic challenges are being overcome and work is resuming according to scheduled timelines. Key infrastructure goals include the completion of modern council buildings, with approximately 100 islands expected to utilize new facilities within the next two years.

In maritime logistics, Minister of Economic Development, Tourism and Trade Mohamed Saeed confirmed that certain port services will begin transitioning to Thilafushi starting in October. This move is intended to accelerate cargo clearing, particularly for essential goods like fruits and vegetables. Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) reported that construction of a 100-meter breakwater at Thilafushi is expected to finish in October, alongside the launch of container clearing and loading services using an 80-meter barge. The full port project is targeted for completion by November 2027.

Separately, the Maldives Half Marathon 2026 was successfully held in Hulhumalé, featuring international fitness icon Milind Soman as an ambassador. The event attracted over 2,000 participants across various categories, including a half marathon, 15km, 5km, and children's races.
