Dr. Allison Tingwall selected as Grand Rapids Public Schools superintendent

The Grand Rapids Public Schools Board of Education has selected Dr. Allison Tingwall to serve as the district’s next superintendent. Tingwall, currently the Executive Director of Principal Quality at Chicago Public Schools, will succeed Leadriane Roby, who is scheduled to conclude her tenure in June 2027.

Tingwall brings approximately 20 years of experience in education, including roles as a teacher, principal, and district administrator. Her background includes serving as the principal of Curie Metropolitan High School and working to improve student outcomes, college enrollment, and Advanced Placement participation.

The appointment is pending final contract negotiations. Tingwall, a Michigan native and University of Michigan alumna, expressed a desire to return to her home state to contribute to the public education system. Her leadership comes at a transitional period for the district, which is currently undergoing a reorganization plan involving the potential closure or consolidation of 10 school buildings.
