Dr. Antonino Abbate named director of Gynecologic Oncology unit at Palermo’s ARN Civico

Antonino Abbate has been appointed the new director of the Unità Operativa Complessa (UOC) for Gynecologic Oncology at the ARN Civico Di Cristina Benfratelli hospital in Palermo for a five‑year term. Abbate earned his degree and specialization at the University of Palermo and has a long record of performing major oncologic surgeries in gynecology, with a focus on robotic and precision minimally‑invasive techniques, endoscopic treatment of ovarian cancer, reconstructive procedures, endometriosis and pelvic‑floor disorders. He previously served as acting head of the unit from 2023, having trained under Professor Vito Chiantera. The Gynecologic Oncology unit, together with the Gynecology and Obstetrics department led by Dr. Antonio Maiorana, is regarded as a regional reference centre for women’s health. Hospital directors Walter Messina and Domenico Cipolla said his expertise will further advance innovative surgical offerings and improve patient flow for oncologic care.
