Dr. Chris Kerr identifies key signs of approaching death

Dr. Chris Kerr, a hospice physician with 27 years of experience, has identified key indicators that a patient is approaching death. Speaking on an Oprah podcast, Kerr noted that one of the most significant signs is the occurrence of ‘visitations’—vivid experiences of deceased loved ones.

Kerr emphasized that these are not merely dreams, stating, “They’re not dream-like, and there’s not symbolism, they’re not metaphor.” He observed that these experiences tend to intensify as death nears, often occurring within a state of increased sleep. Patients frequently report these visions with absolute clarity and often insist on their reality.

Kerr also highlighted differences in how children experience end-of-life visions. Because young patients may not have lost relatives, their visitations often involve animals or other sources of comfort rather than deceased family members.
