DR Congo Secures World Cup Knockout Spot with 3-1 Win Over Uzbekistan

The Democratic Republic of Congo defeated Uzbekistan 3-1 in the final group match of the FIFA World Cup 2026, clinching a place in the knockout stage for the first time in 52 years. Uzbekistan took an early lead, but DR Congo equalised from the penalty spot before taking the lead through forward Fiston Mayele. Striker Yowan Wissa added two penalties late in the match to seal the victory.

The win guarantees DR Congo a round‑of‑32 matchup against England. Group K saw Colombia finish as champions and Portugal take second place, while both DR Congo and Uzbekistan are eliminated from the group stage.

The match took place on 28 June 2026 at the Atlanta stadium.
