DR Congo to relocate embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has announced plans to relocate its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This decision follows a working visit to Israel by President Félix Tshisekedi, during which he met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.

The move revives a diplomatic commitment originally made in 2023. The two nations intend to pursue reciprocal diplomatic upgrades, which include the opening of a resident Israeli embassy in Kinshasa. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar noted that the DRC is expected to become the 11th country to establish an embassy in Jerusalem.

Discussions between the two countries will cover various sectors, including defense, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and high technology. While the DRC has expressed support for Israel based on religious and strategic ties, the relocation of embassies to Jerusalem remains a sensitive issue that many nations avoid in accordance with United Nations positions on the city's status.
