Dr. Conrad Agonza Kahyoza detained after police confrontation in Dar es Salaam
Dr. Conrad Agonza Kahyoza, an internal medicine specialist at Muhimbili National Hospital, Mloganzila, has been detained following a confrontation with a traffic police officer in Lugalo, Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.
The Tanzania Police Force reported that the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. when a traffic officer stopped a vehicle for using a service road outside of approved arrangements. According to Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander Jumanne Muliro, the suspect allegedly assaulted the officer and was subsequently attacked by members of the public. The police stated that the officer, Sergeant Andrew Kikos, sustained injuries during the encounter.
The Medical Association of Tanzania (MAT) confirmed it is monitoring the situation. MAT President Dr. Alex Elifuraha Msoka stated that the association has spoken with police leaders and was informed that Dr. Kahyoza sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable. The doctor is currently being held at the Oysterbay Police Station as legal procedures continue. MAT is working with the doctor's employer and family to ensure he receives necessary medical care and legal support.
