Dr. Dre’s ‘2001’ to receive limited all-analog audiophile vinyl edition

Interscope and Capitol Records have announced a limited-edition, all-analog audiophile vinyl release of Dr. Dre’s landmark album ‘2001’. Part of the Definitive Sound Series, the release follows the previous pressing of ‘The Chronic’.

The 2-LP set is scheduled to begin shipping on October 23 and is limited to a one-time pressing of 4,000 numbered copies. Priced at $135, the edition is mastered directly from the original analog master tapes. The records will be pressed on Neotech VR900-D2 180-gram high-definition vinyl at Record Technology, Inc. using a ‘One Step’ process designed to preserve detail in bass, instrumentation, and stereo imaging.

Each set includes original album artwork in a heavyweight tip-on double-pocket gatefold jacket with a custom slipcase, as well as a certificate of authenticity detailing the mastering and pressing chain. The lacquers were cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering.
