Dr. Fenny Shidhika calls for investment in Namibian heart care
Paediatric cardiologist Dr. Fenny Shidhika is advocating for increased government investment in specialised healthcare and professional training to ensure children with heart defects can receive quality care within Namibia. Following a successful joint cardiac campaign with specialists from the United Kingdom that saw several critical operations performed at Windhoek Central Hospital, Dr. Shidhika emphasized the need for continued political will to support human capital and advanced equipment to ensure the sustainability of these services.
Separately, Dr. Shidhika is facing disciplinary proceedings at Windhoek Central Hospital. Allegations include verbal abuse, intimidation, bullying, and insubordination. An investigation report involving a four-member panel identified dysfunction within the Cardiac Unit, citing fractured professional relationships and disagreements over patient management. While the disciplinary matter remains pending, the case has prompted discussions regarding institutional competence and the challenges of maintaining high medical standards within the healthcare system.
